Board of Directors | Carol Pollock Chairman - Professor Carol Pollock Professor Pollock completed her undergraduate medical training at the University of New South Wales in 1982 and attained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians with Specialist training in Renal Medicine in 1988. Her PhD in renal physiology was awarded in 1992. She was appointed Senior Lecturer in Medicine at The University of Sydney in 1991, Professor of Medicine at The University of Sydney, Royal North Shore Hospital in 2000 and Research Chairman of the Northern Sydney Area Health Service in 2001. In this role she is responsible for the co-ordinated research efforts of the Northern Sydney Area Health Service and the operational and strategic research effort of diverse disciplines. The umbrella activities of management of intellectual property, ethical conduct of research and adherence to research policy are co-ordinated through her office. Her own research interests include the pathogenesis of renal failure in patients with diabetes mellitus and factors important in the prognosis of patients on dialysis. This research is funded by both 3 and 5 year project grants from National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and a program grant through NHMRC and JDRF. Substantial funding is secured through peer reviewed governmental and industry supported funds. Her research contributions were recognized by being awarded the TJ Neale Award, the highest research award of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nephrology (ANZSN), in 2000. She plays an active role in NHMRC, professional and industry sponsored research programs and is on the advisory boards of several pharmaceutical companies in the areas of vascular disease and renal failure. Professor Pollock is currently the Chair of the ANZSN Scientific Programme and Education Committee, having been a previous Councillor and Honorary Executive Officer of the ANZSN. She is also a current Councillor of the International Society of Nephrology and the Chair of the Future Meeting Site Committee of the International Society of Peritoneal Dialysis. Professor Pollock is a founding Board Member of BioMed North, with a key objective of co-ordinating the research effort and the resultant commercial potential of the Northern Clinical School of The University of Sydney, Macquarie University, The University of Technology Sydney, Southern Cross University, The Molecular Science Division of CSIRO and the Australian Government Analytical Laboratories with the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industry based in the Northern sector of Sydney. She is on the NSW committee of AUSBIOTECH. |
